The Scarecrows Wedding

This month Tales for Tots was sponsored by Scholastic Canada and we read a very cute book called the Scarecrow’s Wedding By Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.
Perfect for the fall season, the story was about two very cute scarecrows.

And so begin the plans for the best wedding the barnyard has ever seen! The scarecrow couple sets off for a hunt round the farm for everything they need for the festivities — a big white dress, rings, wedding bells (or, at least, cow bells)… But when Harry's search for flowers takes him far, far away, a new scarecrow Reginald Rake sees his chance to ruin this beautiful day… Hurry back, Harry!

We loved the rhymes in this story as well as the beautiful drawings. The kids love to hear the repetition about the best wedding ever!

After we finihsed the story we made our very own scarecrows out of construction paper. We started with some large popsicle sticks and glued on pants and shirts for our scarecrows. Then we added a head, a hat and some craszy hair. We finished our scarecrow with some hands and drew on some eyes and a face.

Everyone had fun naming their scarecrows as well and then playing with them around the park! Juliet was super excited to win the book and get to take it home!
