Nick Bland is quickly becoming one of our favourite writers, we have read some of his other books at past events like The Brave Bear, King Pig and the Very Cranky Bear.
We love his stories because they tend to have lots of fun rhymes, the pictures are always fun and colourful and there always seems to be a twist and an important lesson to learn.
This month our Tales for Tots was sponsored by Scholastic Canada and we read a perfect book for Halloween time, we read Monster Chef by Nick Bland.

In this story it was all about a monster named Marcel who was trying to scare kids (that was his job) but no one found him very scary. His true love was cooking in the kitchen and he loved to create ooey gooey creations. He soon learned that his skill for cooking could help him in his mission to scare.
For our craft we made our own monster creations. We started with some coloured construction paper made into a circle. We added another cirlce of the same coloour and folded it over to make the mouth. This way our monsters could open and close their months.
We then added our personal touches to our monsters. We added funny hair, eyes, teeth and more.
We sang some monster themed songs like – If you are a monster and you know and 5 litle monsters jumping on the bed!
Our winner of the book Olive was so excited she almost ate her book!
