Host a Kids’ Mini Pizza Party: Real and Alphabet-Play-Style

January 14, 2015momstownFamily Life, Parenting, Preschooler, School LifeNo comments
There might be no food that kids love more than pizza. But there is a way to make it a little more fun: Let each of your children make his own mini pizza. Momstown, in Guelph, hosted, what looked like, its’ very own pizza party during their Alphabet Play Program last week. The children learned about all of the alphabet sounds, while making a craft depicting a real pizza with pepperoni-type letters. This is a craft that parents can easily do at home, in order to teach letter sounds in a fun way, by making something that all children love. PIZZZZZZZZZZAAAAAAA! The mere word makes my stomach growl and my mouth water! The facilitator was able to see which toppings were most popular (it looks like pepperoni won out!). This Alphabet Play reminded me of the fun we had at home hosting several of our kids’ homemade pizza parties. The idea of learning letter sounds with this pizza-type alphabet craft, plus, making a child’s own mini pizza would, I think, be a great way to celebrate a birthday or any celebration, or play-date activity. Read on to find out how you can host your very own Kids’ Mini-Pizza Party (both real and Alphabet Play style!).

At momstown in Guelph, staff, children and parents had great fun while they made their own crafty pizzas. All that was needed for this simple, but fun, learning craft (as you can see by the picture) were some construction paper cut-outs of a variety of pizza toppings, as well as a few circular, dough, pizza cut-outs. Lastly, you will need some glue, and a black marker, in order to print the various alphabet letter sounds on the different pizza toppings. And, alas, you have your child's very own personal, pan, alphabet pizza!

If  you are brave, you can even take this idea one step further and host your very own Mini-Pizza Party for your youngsters. Just keep in mind the following tips, to make it the best learning party ever!

First, for this kids cooking party you will want to print-off for each child the homemade pizza recipe card (link below) for each child that will be at the party.

The children can then follow the recipe while they are creating their very own pizzas. It is also a good idea to include an extra one for them to take home, as this recipe card may get a little messy in the process! So much learning (reading, following directions, mixing, measuring) is involved in this party idea!

You will also need:

·  Masking tape (to label kid chefs name on the pans)

·  Several pizza pans or cookie sheets

·  Spoons- one for each child for spreading and a few extras if needed

·  1 set of teaspoons

·  1 set of tablespoons

·  1 set of cups

·  Actual recipe ingredients (I use tupperware sectioned containers)

·  An assortment of pizza toppings

·  Rolling pin if desired

·  Paper plates, cups and eating utensils

*If you are hosting an actual birthday party, a party favour to send home could be a plastic kids' kitchen utensil set, or aprons or chef hats that children could decorate themselves.  Another gift idea could be a magnetic letter set for each child accompanied with a rolling pin and a round, magnetic pizza pan (children can still magnetic letters to their pizza pan to form words!). The recipe card, and any leftover pizza should be a parting gift as well!
