This week we welcomed our guest speaker Dr. Arthur Eugenio, who spoke to us about household mishaps.

Many of our babies are starting solids and moms were wanting to know what to do if baby starts choking.  If baby is able breath and is coughing, just allow baby to keep coughing.  Don’t interfere, stay with baby and stay calm.  Chances are baby will cough up the food or object they are choking on.  If baby is not able to breath, is gasping for breath and is turning blue, straddle baby over your arm facing downward, give baby 5 back thrusts between the shoulder blades, then flip baby over and give baby 5 chest compressions on their nipple line.  Then flip again, you keep going until the food/object comes out or baby goes unconscious.  If baby goes unconscious call 911 and start CPR.

Burns – run under cold water, break the blister.  If covers a lot of the baby seek medical attention.

Stitches – tongues don’t usually get stitched up.  If a tooth goes through the lip, this may need stitches.  If bleeding doesn’t stop seek medical attention.

When in doubt seek medical advice.

Be prepared take a first aid course.
